New Delhi: The DND or Delhi-Noida-Delhi Flyway, which connects the capital city to neighbourinng Noida in Uttar Pradesh, will be toll-free from now.

The Allahabad High Court's decision to declare the eight-lane, 9 km long link free of charge comes two months after massive protests.

Alleging corruption in the DND project and overcharging, protesters blocked toll collection for two days, affecting traffic severely. An average of 1.5 lakh vehicles take the route daily.

Protesters demanded that the Rs 28 toll be scrapped following allegations that the operator had already made profits.

A group of Noida residents petitioned the court in 2012, asking that the bridge be made toll-free.

The expressway, which opened in 2001, considerably reduces the travel time between Delhi and Noida. Commuters, however, often face huge traffic jams.
