Greater Noida gets ready to host T20s, ODIs in March

GREATER NOIDA: The Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Stadium in Greater Noida is gearing up to host several cricket matches in March 2017. On the sports calendar are several T20s, ODIs and the fifth round of the ICC Intercontinental Cup, said the newly appointed chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), Atif Mashal, on Monday.

Mashal was in Greater Noida to meet GNIDA CEO Deepak Agarwal on a trip of the stadium after his appointment by the president of Afghanistan in December 2016.

The stadium had officially become the home ground for Afghanistan cricketers in December 2015. ACB is Afghanistan's representative at the International Cricket Council (ICC) and an associate member of ICC since June 2013.

According to Mashal, Afghanistan will play against Ireland in a series of nine matches across several formats inin March. The series, consisting of five ODIs, three T20s and a four-day round of the ICC Intercontinental Cup, will be played between March 8 and 31. "We are looking forward to hosting the Irish team," Agarwal said.

The dates for the cricket matches have already been finalised. "While the T20 matches will be held on March 8, 10 and 12, the ODIs will be held on March 15, 17, 19, 22 and 24," said Rajeev Tyagi, general manager (Projects), GNIDA. The stadium will host the fifth round of the ICC Intercontinental Cup from March 28-31.
